Gentle Giant Ltd is a Californian Company dedicated to the production of sculptures and digital models with a production ranging from movies (Harry Potter, The Hobbit, The Walking Dead, Honey Trap, and especially Star Wars, where it collaborated directly with the creation of the second episode of the saga) to Comics. In 2012 the Company launched a series of very original resins (Statues with Vehicles) where the character is actually portrayed "on board" a vehicle and was focused on Marvel heroes: Deadpool, Hawkeye, Ghost Rider and Captain America. The first statue of the series, Deadpool on Vespa, was released in 2012 with an edition size of 550 samples and, in my humble opinion, it simply represents one of the finest pieces dedicated to Wade Wilson presently available on market. The piece is based on the cover of No. 68 of Comics: it has a height of 25 cm, a weigth of approximately 5.5 kg and comes in four pieces: base, body, bike, and gun. The originality of this statue is really unique: Deadpool is depicted on a classic Vespa of the 1960s and holds an abnormal sized bazooka which not only characterizes the aesthetics of the piece as a whole, but enriches it with the irony and grotesque humor that represent the essential peculiarities of the character. It is very hard to find weak points in this piece! The sculpt is just perfect: the hero exhibits a well-defined and optimally proportioned musculature and a very realistic pose over the vehicle, while the Vespa is realized in a superb way and leaves astonished by the number and incredible quality of details. Note, for example, the seam of the gun holster and its partially "wood" handle; the superb workmanship of the many military pouches and the spherical, old-style grenades at waist; the detailed automatic weapon and the open holster present on the left leg; the dagger on the right ankle; the refined decorations on the hilt and the handle of the katanas on shoulders: any detail is carved and realized and painted to perfection. The central, huge bazooka immediately catch the eyes: it is colored with a perfect military green with dark shades and exhibits the explanatory writing "THE SOLUTION" on the end of the rifle barrel. The details of all the metallic components are very realistic and denote a care in the sculpt well above the average, especially for a 1:6 scale statue. The same is true for the Vespa! Note the details of the wheels (carved with a tread) and the braking mechanisms, the slots on the rear side bonnets, the rear view mirrors, the pedals for starting and braking, the side lights and turn signals, the handlebar, the luggage compartment, the rubber strips on the foot rest area or the leather seat folded by the weight of Wilson. A level of realism and detail that could satisfy even a collector of motorcycle models! Deadpool's face is very nice, with the typical mockingly expression and the perfect contour of nose and ears under the mask. Note also the shape of the muscles on the back of the hero and the detail of the thumb raised on trigger, ready to shot: absolutely fantastic! The base, elliptical in shape, is as simple as elegant, with a mirror surface that enriches the asthetics and the visual impact of the whole; it is separated from the figure and just acts as a pedestal to the statue. The unique weak point of this fantastic piece, if any, is the extreme fragility of the many details which embellish the figure and the vehicle. The availability of the Deadpool on Vespa statue on market is very poor and the quotations simply crazy, thus confirming the notable appreciation of all Marvel collectors for this spectacular 1:6 scale statue.
